Call it the snowball effect.
Days after breaking its 700-day snow drought, New York City could see another 5 inches of powder this weekend as a storm heading northeast ushers in some of the chilliest weather in almost a year.
“Our forecast is looking like we could potentially get up to 5 inches of snow,” Fox meteorologist Nikki Nolan told The Post Thursday.
The flurries were expected to start falling early Friday and continue until midday Saturday.
With temperatures already below the freezing mark on Thursday, the fast-moving storm’s snow and freezing rain could snarl both the morning and evening commutes on Friday.
The snow may continue to fall into Saturday afternoon before things start heating back up at the very end of the weekend, Nolan said.
New York City could see up to 5 inches of snow this weekend. REUTERSAreas outside New York City should expect similar conditions, with temperatures in the 20s and low 30s — but with potentially fewer flurries.
The storm is expected to dump anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow in Connecticut and between 3 and 5 inches in parts of northern New Jersey and Long Island, Nolan said.
“If you’re getting into upstate, there’s going to be even less actually unless you’re close to the Great Lakes,” Nolan added, noting the storm will be bringing in lake effect snow.
Temperatures are expected to stay in the 20s and low 30s through the weekend. G.N.Miller/NYPostMayor Eric Adams on Friday warned New Yorkers to “prepare for slick roads” and said he spoke with Gov. Kathy Hochul Wednesday night about conditions in Buffalo, insisting both cities were prepared.
“The Department of Sanitation will deploy a full set of salt spreaders and police want New Yorkers to try and make sure their property requirements are [up to scratch,]” Hizzoner said.
He also warned Gotham residents to be careful on their commutes.
A winter weather advisory was issued starting Friday morning for parts of New Jersey.
“If you’ve noticed, we’ve had some cold temperatures hitting our area. That’s what’s really enhancing the snow for us,” Nolan explained.
Snow is expected to begin falling Friday morning and last through the evening. G.N.Miller/NYPostThe storm system will also bring the coldest air the region has seen in nearly a year, with Saturday expected to be the most frigid day — with wind chills pushing temps into the single digits.
The Big Apple will then see a respite from the cold snap next week, with temperatures expected to be in the 40s by Wednesday.
“We get back into above-freezing after Sunday. It’ll be pretty sunny and mild temperatures after that,”” Nolan said.
