Police on Long Island are reporting an 18-month-old boy has died in an unusual accident at a beach.

A section of unattached chain link fence fell on the boy Monday afternoon while he was playing at Ransom Beach in Bayville.

The toddler was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead early Tuesday.

Police did not immediately release the name of the child. They said the investigation is ongoing.

Ransom Beach is a park operated by the town of Oyster Bay. A spokeswoman did not immediately comment.
