New York lawmakers have lined up the remaining Senate Republican vote needed to pass the 9/11 health bill – but the long-stalled legislation could still die in a vote tomorrow if GOP lawmakers aren’t satisfied with the massive tax cut deal reached with President Obama.
Sen Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) today said she would supply the final vote needed to pass the 9/11 health bill but “not before we deal with the tax bill.” She was referring to the tentative accord with the White House to extend the Bush-era income tax cuts.
The $7.4 billion bill – called the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act — would provide medical care to rescue workers allegedly stricken with illnesses from breathing Ground Zero toxins.
