ALBANY — Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo yesterday called on Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman to “fast-track” court cases involving three contested state Senate seats, warning that legislative chaos may result if he doesn’t.

Cuomo, acting in his capacity as attorney general, told Lippman in a letter that if the three contests weren’t decided before the new Legislature convenes on Jan. 5, “the Senate may lack a functioning majority.

“That would complicate, if not render impossible, the conduct of day-to-day business in the Senate Chamber,” added Cuomo, who will become governor Jan. 1.

A spokesman said that Lippman “agrees that the matter is both important and urgent, and it will be addressed promptly.”

Senate Democrats have held a mere one vote majority for the past two years. Republicans and Democrats won 30 and 29 seats, respectively, in balloting earlier this month.
