Republican Sen. Majority Leader John Flanagan has proposed naming the new Tappan Zee Bridge after Democratic Gov. Cuomo’s father.
Flanagan’s surprise bill was introduced at the last minute Wednesday night and approved by the Senate, but there wasn’t enough time for matching legislation to be introduced in the Assembly.
Flanagan did not comment on why he wanted to name the span after the late Gov. Mario M. Cuomo, but Andrew Cuomo spearheaded the $3.9 billion effort to replace the old Tappan Zee.
