ALBANY — A lawmaker battling cancer stunned colleagues Friday by coming out against a medical-marijuana bill designed to help people cope with the very same disease.

“This isn’t going to cure anyone,” state Sen. Tom Libous said in an emotional speech on the Senate floor.

The measure later passed 49-10.

Libous (R-Binghamton) was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 and revealed last year the cancer had spread to his lungs.

He said in an interview that if his doctor recommended it he would “probably” try pot.
