A white flag now flies over a strip of New York land three feet wide and 100 feet long that prompted a neighbor dispute and turned into a federal case.

One week after one of America’s longest-serving jurists trekked out to a Brooklyn back yard see the plot for himself, the owners of two neighboring residences announced they had settled the case out of court.

On Tuesday morning Federal Judge Jack Weinstein issued a 28-page order about the land on East 29th Street in Midwood and slated the case for trial.

Marsha Stickler claimed that the side-yard sliver was rightfully hers, while next-door neighbors Hanoch and Eris Helavy, who paved over much of the grass and cut down a bush in 2007 when they purchased the property, disagreed.

But by midday today, attorneys in the case announced that the feuding neighbors had reached a settlement. They released no details on the resolution.
