Eight people were injured — including five special needs children — when a school bus and a car crashed on the Cross Bronx Expressway Wednesday afternoon, causing the bus to flip on its side, officials said.
The collision happened near East Tremont Avenue around 1 p.m., cops said. When the driver tried to stop the bus, the bus tilted on its side, cops said.
Corey Muirhead, a representative for the Little Lisa bus company, said the bus was traveling from P.S. 114 and carried all special-needs children. He also said the bus was side-swiped, causing it to flip.
One person is in serious but stable condition, according to a spokeswoman for the FDNY, which handles EMS calls. The children all sustained minor injuries, according to police.
All of the victims were taken to Jacobi Hospital, the FDNY spokeswoman said.
