A Brooklyn assemblywoman has become the Legislature’s first female Democrat to demand that Speaker Sheldon Silver step down over his mishandling of the Vito Lopez sex-harassment scandal.

“You jeopardized the safety of, and respect for, female employees,” Assemblywoman Inez Barron said yesterday in an open letter to Silver.

Barron, wife of Councilman Charles Barron, blasted Silver for agreeing to a confidential $103,080 settlement with two of Lopez’s alleged victims and failing to report the complaints to the Assembly ethics committee.
