City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has implored the Bloomberg administration to put the brakes on a homeless shelter planned for her district.

Quinn wrote a letter to the mayor yesterday criticizing the Bowery Residents’ Committee’s Chelsea shelter for being far larger than what city law allows — with 328 beds — and said the community deserves to have input.

A Homeless Services Department spokesman said the BRC shelter “is a model project. … We have maintained open lines of communications with both the community and Speaker Quinn’s office throughout this process.”
