Sandy was so strong that it uncovered a wrecked ship that had been buried for 90 years.

The strong tidal surges pulled the sandy cover off the remains of the Bessie White, a wrecked schooner hidden under Fire Island’s dunes about four miles east of Davis Park.

The ship was lost at sea during heavy fog in 1919 or 1920, officials at the National Park Service said.
