A scary scene unfolded at the Albany County Democratic Committee’s headquarters overnight — with an “unknown suspect” firing several shots through the building’s front window, according to police.
“It’s pretty scary, because I could have actually been there,” committee chairman Jack Flynn told the Albany Times Union, noting how he typically works late.
“I’m glad that nobody was hurt,” he said.
Workers arrived Wednesday morning to find the building’s front window riddled with bullet holes. Authorities believe it was shot at least nine times “during the overnight hours.”
“I believe there was an intent to make a statement,” Flynn said, pointing out how some of the shots appeared to hit the window’s Democratic Committee lettering “right in the middle.”
Cops said they were still investigating the incident and searching for a possible suspect.
“What we’ve learned so far is that at least one hole may have been there as early as last week,” Albany police spokesman Steve Smith told reporters Wednesday at a press conference.
He said that the others appeared to come from bullets fired overnight.
“I think it’s scary,” Smith added. “I don’t think it matters what type of building it is. Anybody who thinks it’s okay to fire a firearm in the city will be held accountable.”
