Shut out of high school
No school for you!
More than 8,200 public-school eighth-graders were not matched to a single high school of their choice this year, making it the highest percentage of shutouts since 2005, city statistics shows.
The unlucky 10.5 percent of nearly 79,000 students who applied to up to a dozen public high schools this fall will enter a second-round application process later this month that typically has fewer and less enticing options.
