Rep. Michael Grimm (R-SI) said yesterday that the recovery after Hurricane Sandy is only “just starting.” Federal funds have only recently started trickling in, he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“You think the cavalry’s coming, and it’s going to take a long time because there is a bureaucracy,” Grimm said. “We certainly haven’t done enough, and it certainly is taking too long.”

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) said the Sandy response has been good, although some homeowners and businesses are still shut out.

“When the hand of God strikes, the local communities can’t handle it,” Schumer said. “America stood by us.”
