A high school on Staten Island has given an honorary diploma to a 100-year-old woman in Canada.

Mary Arnott would have graduated with the Class of 1925 at St. Peter’s Girls High School. But she had to take care of her siblings after their mother died.

Arnott says she went to night school and became a legal secretary. But it “wasn’t the same” as getting her diploma.

Her family contacted the school about arranging the birthday surprise. Assistant Principal Mary Haugen happily obliged.

Arnott now lives in Toronto, in an apartment attached to her daughter’s home.

She told the Staten Island Advance that the diploma “means everything” to her.
