Gov. Paterson found himself alone at the Capitol last night, despite his request to hold a meeting with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson.

Paterson, who unleashed a withering attack on lawmakers in his State of the State Address last week, wanted to talk about pending legislation involving ethics reform and the Race to the Top federal requirements.

But Silver coldly notified him late in the day that he was just too busy meeting with his fellow Democratic assemblymembers to get together with the governor, it was learned.

“If the governor is going to continue to attack lawmakers, this is the kind of thing we can expect to happen more and more,” said one senior state official, responding to Silver’s rebuff to the governor.
