Mourners gathered Wednesday to lay Kade Lewin, the innocent 12-year-old boy senselessly gunned down in Brooklyn last month, to rest — but the Big Apple’s vocal tough-on-crime mayor was a last-minute no-show.

Mayor Eric Adams, a former police captain who banked his mayoralty on public safety and driving down gun violence, was meant to attend a public viewing ahead of Kade’s funeral at the New Life Tabernacle Church in Brooklyn, but canceled at the eleventh hour.

Hizzoner, whose office blamed the no-show on a vague “scheduling conflict,” had earlier decried Kade’s slaying and has repeatedly vowed to clean up the city amid a surge in crime.

Asked about his absence later Wednesday, Adams said he was 10 minutes away from the church when he realized he wouldn’t make a scheduled meeting with civil rights leaders on gun violence.

“We thought we could do both. I didn’t want to illegally use lights and sirens and break the law,” the mayor said, adding he ended up sending Kade’s mom $500 that he had planned to give her in person to help with burial costs.

“When I saw I couldn’t get there in time, I just wired the money to her, I went on GoFundMe and gave the money to the family and I went to the civil rights meeting.”

He added: “I’m going to reach out to the mother later and I’m sure she’s traumatized by this whole incident.”

Despite the mayor’s absence, a heavy police presence was stationed outside the church and seven NYPD officers acted as pallbearers as hundreds of grief-stricken New Yorkers paid their respects to the slain seventh-grader.

Kade’s sobbing mother, Suzette Lewin, rocked back-and-forth as she sat in front of her son’s casket — adorned with white roses, a football and a basketball — during the service.

In eulogizing Kade, his cousin Alisha Barker told mourners that the boy’s “bright light of life was snatched tragically” the night he was murdered.

Angela DeFilippis, Kade’s principal at the Brooklyn Science of Engineering Academy, described those responsible for the killing as “monsters” who “crept into the pages of his story and robbed us.”

Kade was shot in the head on March 31 while he was eating in a parked minivan in East Flatbush with his 20-year-old cousin, Jenna Ellis, and his 8-year-old niece, Kylie.

Ellis survived despite suffering gunshot wounds to her jaw and stomach, while the little girl managed to avoid being struck by the volley of bullets.

Kade’s father, Rudolph Ford, could be seen cradling the 8-year-old inside the church ahead of the funeral service.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the mayor had held a press conference outside the grieving family’s home and vowed to hunt down Kade’s killer.

“Whose child is next?” Adams shouted as he clutched a pair of the boy’s sneakers. Hizzoner also apologized to Kade’s family, saying: “We’re so sorry. Those who took their lives will be found.”

After the funeral, a family spokesperson said they were praying Adams and his administration could “help make New York a safer and better place.” No arrests have been made

Kade will be buried at the Canarsie Cemetery on Thursday.
