Relatives of a Brooklyn teen killed by cops in a controversial 2013 shooting filed a wrongful-death suit against the city — but that doesn’t mean their own possible criminal pasts should be part of the proceeding, a judge has ruled.
Brooklyn federal Magistrate Judge Marilyn Go rejected a bid to probe prior arrests of relatives of 16-year-old Kimani “Kiki” Gray. The city claimed the probe would help “determine bias and credibility,” but the family’s lawyer, Michael Hueston, called the probe a “fishing expedition.”
Gray was shot dead by officers in East Flatbush after pointing a gun at them, said cops who said they recovered the gun at the scene.
Gray’s death sparked days of violent protests amid family claims Gray was unarmed and stopped for racial reasons.
Gray’s mom, Carol Gray, and sister, Mahnefah Gray, are suing.
