A road-rage beef turned deadly in New Jersey yesterday, when two drivers who had been chasing each other on the Garden State Parkway got into a crash that killed one of their passengers, police said.

Both Thomas Vanderweit, 27, of Saddle Brook, NJ, and John Emili, 20, of New City, in Rockland County, were charged with vehicular homicide. The victim, who was in Emili’s car, was thrown from the vehicle and died at Hackensack Hospital.

It’s not clear how the fight started, but at one point, Emili, driving a 2004 Honda, allegedly roared onto an exit ramp to try to pass Vanderweit’s 2007 Chevy.

Emili hit a guardrail. His car overturned and then crashed into Vanderweit’s car, near Washington Township, state police Trooper Christopher Kay said, adding that the woman who died was not wearing a seat belt.
