Slay witness stays silent
He’s no snitch — and now a Brooklyn cop’s wife, accused of killing a man she thought had groped her daughter, is a free woman.
Prosecutors were forced to drop the case against Veronica Nickey, 41, after Dillon Rickman — a pal of the dead man — refused to even state his name on the record.
Justice Alan Marrus gave him a night in jail Monday to think things over, but he returned to court yesterday just as determined.
“In more than 25 years, I’ve never seen that,” said one court veteran who watched the case. “Sometimes, they’ll just get up there and lie.”
Marrus handed down a 30-day sentence for summary contempt against Rickman. Nickey walked away scot-free.
She was charged with blowing away Ellison Butler, 22, in Crown Heights in July 2008, yelling, “That’s what you get for messing with my daughter!”
Rickman’s refusal to testify is even more puzzling because he may be staring at heavy-duty prison time on rape and robbery charges.
