One person was injured when a small crane crashed to the sidewalk in Midtown on Monday night, authorities said.

The “knuckle boom truck,” which is used to transport pieces of construction equipment, had a hydraulic malfunction at about 10:20 p.m. near the corner of Seventh Avenue and 34th Street, according to fire officials.

The boom was connected to a truck and collapsed to the street when the vehicle malfunctioned, the Buildings Department said.

A man who was walking by suffered a minor foot injury in the collapse, police said, adding that he was not struck by the crane or by the truck.

Medics rushed him to Bellevue Hospital where he was treated.

The Buildings Department said the truck, which does not need a permit to operate, was loading material to make a sidewalk shed when it collapsed.
