A small plane flying a banner successfully made an emergency landing today in a Staten Island landfill, officials said.

The pilot walked out the the aircraft and is safe, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The plane, which came from New Jersey, was carrying a banner in honor of US Airways Flight 1549, which landed on the Hudson River one year ago today.

Witnesses said plane parts and other debris were strewn along a stretch of West Shore Expressway.

The two-seat plane, believed to be a single-engine Piper, landed at 12:35 p.m. near the Fresh Kills landfill after experiencing engine trouble.

The pilot, who has not been identified, radioed for help moments before hitting the ground, officials said.

The incident comes on the one-year anniversary of the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger safely ditched a his Airbus A320 loaded with 155 people into the water.
