It will be colder and whiter than Christmas on the first day of spring in New York.

Forecasters are calling for 1 to 4 inches to fall Sunday starting at about noon. Expect the lower end of that range in the Big Apple and more in eastern Long Island, said AccuWeather meteorologist Dan Pydynowski.

The snow won’t stick around for long. The thermometer will hit the mid-40s on Monday, then reach back into the 60s by midweek, Pydynowski said.

Snow is normal for March, but this storm seems surprising following the unusually warm winter.

A total of 31.2 inches of snow fell in Central Park, slightly above average, the National Weather Service says. But most of it — 27.2 inches — fell in one swoop during the Jan. 22-24 blizzard.
