Among the new NYPD cadets scheduled to be sworn into the police academy is Conor McDonald. He’s the son of Steven McDonald who was paralyzed on the job in 1986.
The 23-year-old Conor is Steven’s only son. His wife was pregnant when he was shot in Central Park and later forgave the shooter.
Conor and his fellow cadets are being sworn in to the academy Tuesday in a ceremony with Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. Conor McDonald says he felt compelled to join the force given the support the city has given his family.
McDonald’s father Steven says he is proud of his son for taking on the challenge.
