Ousted “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” director Julie Taymor says she would have learned about hush-hush plans to revamp her show if U2’s Bono hadn’t arrived at a meeting drunk on beer with a bevy of supermodels.
In court papers filed yesterday, Taymor charges that playwright Glen Berger and the show’s producers developed a secret “Plan X” after the smash Broadway musical’s disastrous previews.
Citing an e-mail from Berger, Taymor says she was apparently going to be told about “Plan X” in January 2011, but the late-night meeting got canceled because Bono “showed up . . . with Christy Turlington and a couple other supermodels, and he had already had a few beers, rendering him useless.”
Taymor made the bombshell allegation in a bid to blame her former collaborators for the early troubles with “Spider-Man.”
The producers dismissed Taymor’s accusation against Bono.
“The production will not comment on any of today’s claims, and will not dignify that particular accusation with a response,” said “Spider-man” spokesman Rick Miramontez.
The lead lawyer for the producers, Dale Cendali, added: “It is very disheartening for the former director of the show to take no responsibility for the harmful consequences of her actions.”
