A remarkable 106 office buildings in New York City are now allowing employees to bring their bicycles to work, and another 38 buildings have made room for two-wheelers at nearby facilities, under a new law.

In all, 1,700 bikes are allowed into buildings across the city, instead of being perilously chained to outdoor racks or other city infrastructure.

A law that went into effect last year mandated that cyclists can request that their companies ask building management to allow bikes.

For years, bicycles have routinely been left out of buildings for reasons ranging from space to security.
