Staten Island Chuck wasn’t frightened back inside his cottage by his shadow yesterday at the Staten Island Zoo — signaling an early thaw.

Chuck’s prediction is in line with Pennsylvania’s groundhog Punxsutawney Phil but at odds with Long Island’s Malverne Mel, who did observe his shadow.
