Democrats in the state Senate being challenged by progressives in their own party have decided to donate contributions they received from cable TV giant Charter Communications to a strike fund for its unionized workers.
Bronx state Senator Jeff Klein, former head of the disbanded Independent Democratic Conference, is contributing $4,500.
“Democrats stand up for labor. The strike must end now and we must get 1500 men and women back to work,” Klein said. “I urge other Democrats to do the same…”
About 1,500 employees of Charter/ Spectrum, represented by Local 3 of the international Brotherhood of Electric Workers, are on strike.
Six other former IDC members — under attack because their group once caucused with Republicans — are also donating or considering donating their Charter donations, sources said.
Overall, Charter has showered $708,873.90 to both Democratic and Republican Party campaigns committee as well as to legislators since 2016, campaign records show.
