ALBANY — New York state blocked 239,000 suspicious tax-refund claims this year, saving $400 million, officials said on Thursday.
“We have zero tolerance for those who seek to cheat the system at the expense of hardworking New Yorkers,” Gov. Cuomo said.
The total of blocked claims is up 18 percent from this time in 2015, according to the state.
Cuomo said the state uses “first-rate technology” that flags questionable claims for closer review.
Since it was launched in 2003, the software has saved nearly $4 billion, officials said.
