A Long Island lawmaker is channeling his inner “Animal House” with a plan to build a college-style dormitory for legislators in Albany.

The “legislative dormitory facility” would save taxpayers the cost of lodging state politicians in hotels while they’re in the Capitol, said Sen. Phil Boyle (R-LI), who sponsored the bill.

“It would be clean and comfortable, but not extravagant, saving millions of dollars of taxpayer money each year,” Boyle said.

Senators and Assembly members now receive a $172 taxpayer-funded per-diem when visiting Albany — $61 for food and $111 for lodging.

Once it’s paid off in five or six years, the $9 million dorm would end the need for a lodging allowance, Boyle said.
