Spring is coming early this year — well, at least it will in Staten Island.

The New York City borough’s very own groundhog, Charles G. Hogg, aka Chuck, did not see his shadow during this morning’s annual weather prediction.

“No shadow, spring is coming,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg after the prediction held at the Staten Island Zoo, according to the Staten Island Advance.

Bloomberg, who was bitten by last year’s groundhog, got away unscathed this year.

Residents outside the borough will need to hold onto their gloves and hats, as Punxsutawney Phil called for six more weeks of winter.

Nationwide, Phil and 12 others saw their shadows while five groundhogs, including Chuck and Phil’s “nemesis” General Beauregard Lee, did not.
