A Staten Island man was arrested after he accidentally shot his 13-year-old son with a gun the teen found outside, police said Saturday.
The boy brought the Brico gun to his Covington Circle home at about 10:40 p.m. Friday, and showed it to his father, who accidentally fired it into his son’s thigh, authorities said.
The boy, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North.
A woman who identified herself as the boy’s grandmother declined to comment on the shooting, but said that her grandson will be operated on at the hospital.
The boy’s father, Vitaliy Velkin, 39, was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, police said.
