Rep. Michael McMahon’s position on health care is emerging as a focus in his tough reelection bid this year.

Republican candidate Michael Grimm, who is vying for the Staten Island seat, today blasted McMahon, a Democrat, for waffling on health care reform.

It took Mr. McMahon months to state his position on the bill the first time, and now he is vacillating again, Grimm said in a prepared statement. It is time for Mr. McMahon to do what is right for New Yorks 13th district, and not vote with Nancy Pelosi and the Washington insiders.

McMahons spokeswoman said Grimm has his facts wrong.

Congressman McMahon remains opposed to the health care bill. Mr. Grimm should try reading the newspapers, where that was reported over two weeks ago. Although some groups may be hopeful, the Congressman remains a no, a campaign spokeswoman said.
