The Staten Island robber who died in a struggle with his victims over the weekend was out on parole at the time of the fatal confrontation, records show.
Robert Compton, 33, was on parole for attempted robbery when he walked up to his two victims — also 33 — at Pacific Avenue and St. Albans Place in Eltingville just before 2 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities and police sources.
He then brandished a black firearm that investigators later determined was a BB gun, cops and the sources said.

“Give me all of your s–t,” he allegedly snarled.
One of the victims snatched the gun, while the other grabbed the victim around the neck and took him down, according to the sources.
After disarming the suspect, the first man called 911.
The other man was screaming for help when cops arrived, and told them, “he robbed us at gunpoint,” according to the sources.
Police performed CPR on Compton and he was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North, but he could not be saved.

Neither of them faced charges by Wednesday.
“Our clients are two hardworking young men, who were the victims of a terrifying armed robbery by a career criminal,” the victims’ attorney Louis Gelormino said in a statement. “They clearly acted in self-defense. We are grateful that the District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD conducted a complete and thorough investigation of this matter. Our prayers go out to the family of the deceased.”
Compton served four years behind bars — from 2015 to 2019 — on a second-degree attempted robbery charge, state corrections records show.
He was released on parole, which is set to expire in 2023.
