This burglary took an urn for the worse.

A Staten Island woman is desperately searching for her dead sister’s ashes after a burglar snatched the urn — likely mistaking it for a jewelry box.

Pamela Paul, 64, says the cold-hearted crook broke into her modest Fort Wadsworth home while she took a trip upstate for Mother’s Day.

When she arrived home on May 15, she found her front door busted open, and the elegant rosewood box containing her only sibling’s remains was gone.

“This is almost like having her die a second time,” said Paul, 64. “I don’t care who did it or why they did — I just want to get the ashes back.”

The younger sister, who lived in Manhattan, had just died in March following a long illness.

Paul said she ordered the beautiful box after the funeral director told her she’d otherwise have a plain container.

“I wanted something nicer,” Paul said.

Cops say the thief used a drill to jimmy the door frame sometime between May 13 and 15.

It’s unclear why the brute chose Paul’s two-story home, only taking took some watches and costume jewelry.

Now Paul is putting up “Wanted” flyers near local bus stops showing the hand-painted box with little brass feet — one of which the thief left broke and left behind after fumbling with the sealed vessel.

“I want to appeal to anyone who has some sort of conscious or heart to give it back,” Paul said. “The longer it goes on, the less chance I have of getting it back.”

Paul said she eventually planned to bury the ashes.

“She was my only sister. She wanted to be cremated — that was her wish.”
