A thief broke into a flight school at 4am at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles and hijacked a plane – before crashing it into a building, according to authorities.

A single-engine Cessna was stolen from the airport, and one person has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of an aircraft, according to NBC4.

Video shows the plane nose-first into a building with a gaping hole.

Anthony Nercessian, who owns LA Flight Academy, told the news outlet he was the owner of the $450,000 aircraft.

“I got a phone call at 5 a.m. that someone broke into the flight school and stole one of the planes,” Nercessian said.

Law enforcement told the outlet that the plane did not get off the ground. It is unclear whether the authorities are searching for anyone else in connection with the daring theft.

Nercessian said the plane’s engine is no longer working, but told the outlet it could have been much worse.

“I’m glad it ended this way with no casualties,” Nercessian said. “I just can’t understand how someone would think of stealing an airplane.”

Van Nuys Airport is considered one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country. It is home to a mix of general aviation, air-taxi, commercial operations and multiple flight schools, making it a “very challenging” airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
