Tonight’s sudden downpour sent trees crashing onto the tracks and overhead wires of a Metro-North commuter train line, causing massive delays for straphangers, officials said.

Service remains slow on the New Haven line between Harrison, N.Y., and Stamford, Conn., following Sunday’s storm.

Travel was suspended for hours following the storm.
