The famed East Village bookstore, The Strand, was evacuated after someone sprayed a noxious substance between the shelves on Tuesday, authorities said.

The FDNY responded to a 911 call that someone had sprayed something like pepper spray inside the shop on Broadway and East 12th Street and several customers’ eyes were burning.

Customers were ushered out around 4:10 p.m. Fire officials did not have an immediate patient count but said that no one has been taken to the hospital so far.
