A young Bronx mom was fatally shot as she walked to the store near her home early today, police said.
A grieving pal of victim Yaritza Pacheco said the 24-year-old mom was hit by a stray bullet during all-too-common gun violence in the area.
“[Pacheco] was going to the store with her two girlfriends when [she was] hit by a stray bullet during a shooting,” said the friend, Angela Applewhite, 46. “It’s such a sad loss … [Her daughter] and her husband are devastated.”
Cops said the gun-down occurred around 4 a.m. on East 174th Street near Boston Road in Tremont.
A 23-year-old man also was shot. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with a leg wound and is listed in stable condition.
Pacheco, a manager at an Applebee’s restaurant, left behind a toddler daughter and husband, friends said.
“She was a very loving mother — everything centered around her daughter, that’s all she lived for” said the stricken Applewhite. “She was a beautiful person, so sweet.”
Applewhite decried the violence in the area.
“There are always shootings up there — a lot of life has been lost on that corner,” she said.
Police have not yet arrested anyone for the murder.
