Summer hooky
Despite warnings they may not be promoted, many kids required to attend summer school have not shown up.
Of about 100,500 mostly failing students mandated to take classes, attendance last week ranged from 67 percent to 69 percent, the city Department of Education said.
Attendance was between 80 percent and 81.6 percent among 27,000 kids in grades 3 through 8 who were required to go to summer school, including 20,500 who failed this year’s state math and reading tests.
But attendance hovered only between 61.5 to 63.5 percent among high schoolers told to attend or risk not being promoted or not graduating.
