ALBANY, N.Y. — The critically wounded receptionist who called police during a New York gunman’s rampage two years ago breaks her public silence to ask for a renewed ban on large-capacity gun magazines like those Jiverly Wong used to kill 13 people in two minutes.
Shirley DeLucia, who played dead under her desk at the American Civic Association in Binghamton, says the only point of those magazines is to inflict as much carnage as possible, like in the recent shooting in Tucson.
DeLucia says she’s haunted by that day’s “horror” in flashbacks, nightmares and lasting physical effects.
Pending legislation, with 106 House co-sponsors, would ban magazines holding more than 10 rounds. A similar ban expired in 2004.
Binghamton officials plan to gather Monday to mark the second anniversary of the shooting.
