A lovesick teenage boy seeking a prom date may have been the dim-witted culprit who left behind a propane tank at a busy JFK Airport terminal that caused a major security flap Friday morning, sources said.

The heart-stopping — and perhaps heart-breaking — incident unfolded at 9:40 a.m., when a red tank like those used at outdoor barbecues was left at the street-level entrance to Terminal 4.

The tank bore a heart symbol and mystifying scrawls in white paint.

Written on the top were the words, “360 view of you,” along with the words, “PROM” and “I can’t take the high road,” as well as “YES YES YES YES YES YES.”

Rather than a terrorist, police theorize the tank was left behind by a teenage swain who had it in his car trunk and got rid of it after dropping off a passenger.

The site where it was left is sensitive, as the terminal services passengers departing on Israel’s El Al, Air India, Egypt Air, Emirates Kuwait Airways and Pakistan Airways, sources note.

Predictably, there was a swift police response.

PAPD patrol cops, PAPD K-9 cops and PAPD Emergency Service cops showed up and nearby roadways were evacuated, while service was briefly suspended on the AirTrain.

Finally, at 11:26 a.m., after the NYPD Bomb Squad determined that the tank posed no threat, the area was cleared.
