HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y.— A wildlife rescuer says a swan found impaled by an arrow near a Long Island park is doing well.

A kayaker, Jim MacDougall, found the wounded creature on Friday in Riverhead. The arrow protruded from both sides of the swan’s body, near the wings.

Mark Lembo of the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in Hampton Bays says the swan’s condition was “touch and go” for a while.

MacDougall visited the swan on Friday. He and his wife have named it Cygnus, after the swan-shaped constellation.

The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
