Taxi-scam raps eyed
Thousands of cabbies accused of overcharging unknowing passengers could face criminal prosecution.
The Department of Investigation is conducting a criminal probe into the hacks, and it could refer individual cases to local or federal prosecutors, to an administrative process, or suggest nothing be done, sources said.
DOI wouldn’t say yesterday if decisions had been made yet on any drivers. “We are concentrating on the most egregious offenders,” an official said.
Matt Daus, Taxi and Limousine Commission chief, said, “I think these people are criminals.”
