Teachers ‘pretty’ costly
They’re real beauts.
Teachers in Buffalo spent nearly $9 million in taxpayer money on beauty treatments such as chemical peels and laser hair removal last year, officials said yesterday.
The cosmetic surgery comes courtesy of a longstanding provision in the medical benefits’ portion of the teachers’ union contract.
The treatments accounted for 9 percent of the Buffalo district’s total spending on health benefits, officials told the Buffalo News.
“We indicated it’s one of the things that we’ll be giving up” in a new contract, Buffalo Teachers Federation president Philip Rumore told The Post.
The beauty perk doesn’t exist for teachers or city workers in New York City, according to a spokesman for Mayor Bloomberg.
