To the sound of a bagpipe playing “Amazing Grace,” the teary-eyed teammates of Pace University football player Danroy “DJ” Henry march onto the field yesterday for the team’s first game since the 20-year-old was killed in a controversial police shooting on Oct. 17.
The school painted Henry’s uniform number, 12, in the end zones, and fans wore T-shirts featuring his picture.
When the game began, the Pace Setters team sent only 10 men out onto the field for their first play, leaving Henry’s defensive-back position empty.
