ALBANY, N.Y. — One of three teenagers charged with killing a 22-year-old University at Albany student from Long Island admits he participated in the botched robbery.
King Modest and two others were charged in the shooting death of Richard Bailey, the son of a New York City police officer who aspired to be an officer himself, on Oct. 20, 2008.
Modest accepted a plea deal on Thursday, pleading guilty to first-degree attempted robbery and agreeing to testify against De Von Callicutt and Ricardo Caldwell. Prosecutors say he acted as a lookout.
Modest now faces 10 years in state prison. He could have faced 25 years to life if convicted of second-degree murder.
Bailey was killed on an Albany street as he walked home from a friend’s house.
