The body of a teen who jumped into the Connecticut River to try to save his sister was pulled from the water Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Jay Agli, 17, of Meriden, Ct., and another family member had jumped into the fast-moving river in Haddam Meadows State Park on Sunday to try to save the boy’s struggling 19-year-old sister, according to NBC New York.

All three were swept up by the current. A boater eventually picked up the sister and the other family member, but Agli couldn’t be found.

Authorities combed the river for him until they found his body near where he had originally gone into the water, officials said.

Park-goers told NBC that the river can be tricky.

“There’s a very strong current on the outside of the sandbar, so you have to be very cautious when deciding to swim off the sandbar,” Amanda Katie Santos said.
