A 17-year-old New Jersey high-school student has died of bacterial meningitis, officials said yesterday.

Chris Dhume, a Matawan Regional HS senior, became sick Thursday night and died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center early Saturday.

Officials are trying to identify those who were in close contact with Dhume.

No one knows how he contracted the illness, says Monmouth County public-health coordinator Michael Meddis.

School officials sanitized the building over the weekend as a precaution.
