Temp ferry boost for SI
Storm-ravaged Staten Island is getting a new commuter-ferry service to help residents during the recovery, the city announced yesterday.
The Department of Transportation is asking for bids from area ferry operators to run a service between Great Kills and Manhattan for the next eight weeks.
The service could begin as early as Monday. It would include six trips from Great Kills to Pier 11 at Wall Street and East 35th Street in Midtown between 6 and 9 a.m., as well as six return trips from noon to 6:15 p.m. Unlike the Staten Island ferry, the new service won’t be free. Trips would cost $2 each way.
